The San Antonio Spurs had a historically easy decision to make heading into the 2023 NBA Draft.
After securing the No. 1 overall pick in the draft lottery, the Spurs were able to select Victor Wembanyama.
Wembanyama was one of the most impressive prospects in league history, and if his rookie season is any indication, he is already starting to live up to the hype.
It was recently announced that the Atlanta Hawks received the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s lottery, putting them in a prime position.
However, they don’t necessarily have as easy of a pick as the Spurs did last season, as reporter Evan Sidery called out on Twitter.
According to Draft Express via Sidery, there are five prospects that the Hawks are considering with this pick.
Prospects expected to be under consideration by the Hawks to go No. 1 overall, per @DraftExpress:
Alex Sarr

Reed Sheppard
Rob Dillingham

Sidery indicated that Alex Sarr is the favorite at this point, but there is no telling what the front office is thinking.
The Hawks had an up-and-down season in 2023, and were unable to make it back to the playoffs despite having several talented players on their roster.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, they had a lot of injuries plague the team, and as a result, they couldn’t gain any traction down the stretch.
If they do take a player like Sarr, Donovan Clingan, or Rob Dillingham, it will be interesting to see if one of them can impact the team in a meaningful way.
Trae Young should be back in full force next year, meaning that he, Dejounte Murray, and the team’s newest draft pick could play together and try to bring this team back to the postseason.
