The San Francisco 49ers keep adding firepower to their special teams.
This time, they’ve added a proven punter to the mix.

The Niners had arguably the worst special teams in the NFL last season, so the former New Orleans Saints fan favorite is a welcome sight.
He has ties to 49ers, as he spent the past two seasons under new special teams coach Brant Boyer with the New York Jets.
The Niners hired Boyer this offseason and also brought in kicker Greg Joseph and long snapper Jon Weeks while bolstering the unit with the additions of Luke Gifford, Siran Neal and Richie Grant.
Morstead is 39 years old, so he won’t be a long-term solution.
The Niners still have punter Mitch Wishnowsky on the roster, but he missed the last eight games of last season with a back injury.
Kyle Shanahan’s team enters this season with some massive question marks.
Their defense should be better with Robert Saleh’s return as defensive coordinator, but they no longer have as much talent as they had in the past.
With an aging and brittle roster, the punter could have a lot of work.
