The San Francisco 49ers have one of the most — if not the most — stacked teams in the National Football League.
Even so, GM John Lynch needs to make sure that the numbers continue to make sense for this project to be sustainable over time.
With that in mind, they’ve restructured tight end George Kittle’s contract, according to a report by Field Yates of ESPN (via ProFootballTalk).

They’ll clear roughly $10 million in cap space, pushing Kittle’s cap hit down, but it also allows them to get under the cap for the immediate future.
The 30-year-old has hauled in 460 receptions for 6,274 yards and 37 touchdowns since he entered the league as a fifth-round pick in 2017, making it to five Pro Bowls and earning two All-Pro selections.
He’s coming off another productive season, with 65 grabs for 1,020 yards and six scores in 16 appearances in 2023.
Notably, the team also restructured Javon Hargrave’s deal for the same purposes.
They created about $6 million in cap space.
Now, Lynch and Kyle Shanahan will have roughly $16 million to keep adding more talent to one of the toughest teams in the league.
They’re in win-now mode, and while they may already have all the pieces they need, you can never have too much depth and talent in this business.
