Even though people don’t give them as hard a time as they do with some NFL teams, it’s almost been three decades since the San Francisco 49ers won a Super Bowl.
Notably, they were quite close years ago, but Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens had other plans.
Then, they almost reached the big game again last season, but Brock Purdy’s injury pretty much shut down any potential hope of beating the Philadelphia Eagles.
But what if they had pulled it off? According to HC Kyle Shanahan, they might have been forced to give Philip Rivers a call to suit up for them in the Super Bowl.
Shanahan joked about that on the Tim Kawakami Show (via Action Network), and while it’s obviously a joke, they would’ve been in a very tough spot in that situation.
"What's going to be our Plan B? We going to have to go get Philip Rivers or someone like that for the Super Bowl?" – Kyle Shanahan if the 49ers ended up winning the NFC Championship against the Eagles
Imagine 😂 😂

The only reason why Purdy got the chance to start for them in the first place was due to the fact that both Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance were also out with injuries, and winning a Super Bowl being down your top three quarterbacks would be nothing short of historical.
It would’ve been nice to see Philip Rivers suiting up for that, as he definitely knew a thing or two about the Kansas City Chiefs, granted that he spent most of his career in that same division.
Unfortunately, that never happened, but considering how tough their luck has been with QBs, we wouldn’t rule out that possibility for this year either.
