The San Francisco 49ers aren’t just the NFL’s hottest team, as they’re also becoming one of the more respected organizations in the league once again.
The latest evidence of that is the fact that Ran Carthon, their director of player personnel since 2017, has just been hired by the Tennessee Titans to be their new general manager.
Carthon came on board for the 49ers after five years with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, which came after four years of being a scout for the Atlanta Falcons.
Prior to that, he spent two years as a player in 2005 and 2006, playing the running back position and also getting playing time on special teams as a kick returner.
In recent years, a number of important members of the 49ers organization have been poached by other organizations, including former defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who is now the head coach of the New York Jets, as well as Mike McDaniel, who got hired by the Miami Dolphins this past offseason to be their head coach.
In addition, current San Francisco defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans is expected to leave this offseason, as he is drawing interest from a number of teams.
But the loss of Carthon could end up being to the Niners’ benefit, as they’re expected to be compensated with two third-round draft picks by the NFL.

San Francisco will be receiving the picks due to a recent league rule that rewards teams when a minority individual within their organization is hired by another team to be either a head coach or general manager.
This will make it easier for the Niners to address some areas of concern while possibly finding another young stud who will be on a rookie contract for some time.
