The San Francisco 49ers have added a bit of depth to their wide receiver corps.
On Monday, they signed wideout Chris Conley, an eight-year veteran who has played with four different teams, to a one-year contract.
At first glance, it may seem like a very minor move, but Matt Barrows, who covers the 49ers for The Athletic, reminded everyone on Twitter that Conley is a capable receiver who maxed out at 775 receiving yards and five touchdowns as recently as 2019.
At age 30, Conley is the oldest WR on the 49ers' roster. The former third-round pick's best season came in 2019 with the Jags: 775 receiving yards and five TDs. He worked out for SF last week along with Laquon Treadwell. https://t.co/u7kgc2ZD0M

Conley was a third-round draft pick back in 2015 by the Kansas City Chiefs after four seasons with the University of Georgia Bulldogs.
There, he was fairly unspectacular, as he never reached 700 yards in a single season, although he did score eight touchdowns as a senior.
In his NFL career, he has started 63 of the 109 games he has appeared in, and he has collected 2,853 yards and 15 touchdowns.
He has twice averaged more 15 yards per receptions for an entire season, which is evidence of his speed (he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine prior to being drafted) as well as his ability to add yards after the catch.
In San Francisco, Conley will not be a major target for whoever their starting quarterback ends up being, but he will be a nice situational option, as well as insurance in case injuries occur.
With the Philadelphia Eagles, who defeated them in the NFC Championship Game a few months ago, looking weaker, the 49ers could very well be the favorites to reach the Super Bowl next season.
