The San Francisco 49ers’ quest for their sixth Super Bowl championship continues, and they’re looking to fortify their roster so that perhaps they will finally make good on that quest in the 2024 season.
On Monday, they added veteran pass rusher Leonard Floyd to give 2022 Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa some help up front, but they have also lost some defensive linemen, most notably veteran Arik Armstead.
In an attempt to replenish the depth on their front four, the 49ers are signing defensive tackle Jordan Elliott to a two-year deal worth $10 million, per Ian Rapoport.

Elliott has played each of his four seasons in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, and he has career totals of 98 tackles (49 solo), 10 quarterback hits, eight tackles, for loss and 5.0 sacks.
Some may feel his addition won’t make much of an impact, but according to ESPN’s run-stop win rate, he’s among the league’s best.
Advanced metrics vary on new 49ers DT Jordan Elliott. He hasn't graded well on PFF, but he was among the NFL leaders in ESPN's run-stop win rate:
1. Derrick Brown: 47%
2. Dalvin Tomlonson: 43%
3. Grover Stewart: 43%
4. Harrison Phillips: 41%
5. Ed Oliver: 41%
6. Elliott: 40%— David Lombardi (@LombardiHimself) March 12, 2024
San Francisco’s defense, which was the best in pro football in 2022, took a step back in 2023, even though its numbers were still very strong.
They had trouble stopping the run in the playoffs, especially in the first two rounds versus the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions, and the hope is that Elliott will help in that department.
The 49ers fired defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, who was in his first year in that role, shortly after losing in the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs, and they replaced him with Nick Sorensen.
They also brought in former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, who won a Super Bowl ring there with Floyd, as an assistant.
