The Atlanta Hawks lucked into the first overall pick in the draft after another subpar season, and it’s time to shake things up to ensure the franchise finds a way out of play-in purgatory.
Some big trades appear to be inevitable, with center Clint Capela’s name already surfacing quite a few times, and one insider has highlighted four teams who are expected to show interest in him this offseason.
Matt Moore of Hardwood Paroxysm shared that the Memphis Grizzlies, Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, and New Orleans Pelicans are expected to show interest in the Hawks’ center, identifying Capela as a “popular trade target” already.

“The Hawks are expected to trade one of Trae Young or Dejounte Murray, but not both. They'll keep one to build around.

Moore also added that the Hawks revamp won’t stop there, saying “The Hawks are expected to trade one of Trae Young or Dejounte Murray, but not both. They’ll keep one to build around.”
Capela has been the team’s starting center for four years with former No. 6 overall pick Onyeka Okongwu serving as a promising backup for his entire career so far.
Okongwu has been ready to step into a bigger role for years, and trading Capela would free up the space for the team to not only do that but possibly draft another big man with the No. 1 pick.
Capela has one year and $22.6 remaining on his current contract, so it’s a good time for the Hawks to explore a way out.
Atlanta’s roster is set to look a lot different next season, so keep an eye on them leading up to the draft, as we’re about a week away without a clue of what’s going to happen with the first overall pick.
