3 Reasons The Colts Should Have A Top Defense In 2020

These past few weeks have been a wild ride in Indianapolis.

GM Chris Ballard has been making some very important moves in free agency so far.

These moves include bringing in some big names on the defensive side of the football.

With the defense they have put together in the offseason, I believe the Indianapolis Colts will have a top defense next season.

Below are 3 reasons why I believe the Colts will have a top defense in 2020.

1. New Additions

The first step in making your team better is to bring in some new faces.

The Colts have been very busy this offseason and have much to show for it.

So far, the big additions to the Colts include Deforest Buckner, Xavier Rhodes and Sheldon Day at defensive tackle.

This unit has a lot of upside with playmakers at every defensive position.

#Colts are building a monster starting defense 🔥🔥🔥

LB: Darius Leonard / Anthony Walker / Bobby Okereke

This is a defense that any opposing quarterback would fear playing against.

2. Young Core Group on Defense

This year when the Colts defense lines up, it will be one of the youngest groups in the league.

The Colts currently have 11 defensive players that are aged 26 or younger.

This is a group that is hungry and has a lot of years left to play.

If they can gel together, they can be a dangerous defense for a long time to come.

2020 #Colts defense is projected to have 10 contributors age 25 and under:

• Leonard
• Moore
• Hooker
• Walker
• Turay
• Ya-Sin
• Willis
• Okereke
• Banogu
• Tell

With all the defensive additions this year, Kemoko Turay is another young talent who will look to pick up where he left off last year before his injury.

Turay is hungry to prove that he can be a top 5 DE in the league.

3. Veterans to Lead

With a solid group of young and talented players on defense, the Colts will have some veterans as well to lead the way.

Having veteran guys around can help develop the young core group of players.

As GM Chris Ballard said about having veteran guys on the team:

“Just when it gets a little hard, they’re a calming factor”

And just a reminder of how good this defense will be.

Between Justin Houston, Darius Leonard, Deforest Buckner, and Xavier Rhodes the Colts defense has 9 Pro Bowl and 5 All-Pro seasons.

So, with all the new additions that Chris Ballard has worked hard to secure this offseason, the Colts should boast a top defense next season.

This should be fun.
