The Players of the Week in MLB have already been decided.
There was no way that Arizona Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen wasn’t going to be elected, after his flawless recent performance.
“No surprise here. Zac Gallen is your NL Player of the Week after extending his scoreless innings streak to 41.1,” Jake Anderson, reporter at 98.7 Arizona Sports, tweeted.

The right-hander has had an incredible season to this point, with a 2.42 ERA in 152.2 innings.
It has been a true breakout season for the talented righty.
If he manages one additional scoreless inning in his next start, he will surpass the franchise record established in 2007 by sinker-baller Brandon Webb (42).
It has been an incredible run of performance that includes six consecutive scoreless starts.
Gallen Has Taken A Step Forward; And Now The D-Backs Have A Legitimate Ace
Sometimes, we don’t take dimension of how hard it is to retire major league hitters.
It requires stuff, velocity, command, control, poise, stamina, and the right mentality.
During his ongoing streak, Gallen has shown he is a legitimate ace.
Besides his incredible control and command, the D-Backs ace also has notable strikeout ability, with 152 punchouts.
He has taken a step forward and become a real frontline starter this year: he was good in 2021, with a 4.30 ERA, but has been magnificent in 2022.
The season has been better than the D-Backs and even fans expected, with a 65-69 record after losing 110 games last year.
Much of that success can be attributed to Gallen’s breakthrough, as the franchise now has a true ace to give them really strong performance every five days.
With the quality of their prospects, young players, and Gallen himself; Arizona may have an outside chance of making the postseason.
