The Tennessee Titans continued their long-standing tradition of signing veteran wide receivers.
This time, they happened to bring a diehard Titans fan home, signing former Seattle Seahawks star Tyler Lockett.
Now, Lockett is looking forward to getting the ball rolling and developing some chemistry with star rookie Cam Ward.
When asked his thoughts about playing with the new No. 1 pick, the speedy wideout couldn’t be happier:
“I am very excited about Cam [Ward] being able to come on board,” Lockett said. “When I was in Seattle, I got a chance to watch him a lot when he was at Washington State […] Obviously being in Seattle, I got a chance to see his highlights all the time and saw him do amazing things there and then at Miami. So, just being able to team up with him and do my part, I am definitely excited for that.”
Lockett will turn 33 in September
He spent the first ten seasons of his career with the Seahawks.
He left the program as the team’s second all-time leader in receptions (661), receiving yards (8.594), and receiving touchdowns (61).
He also made a huge impact on special teams, and he’s also second in punt return yards (1,078), kickoff returns for touchdowns (2), and average yards per kickoff return (25.1).
Lockett is also a three-time All-Pro honoree and a former Pro Bowler, and he’s known for his explosiveness and speed.
He’s coming off a down season.
He hauled in just 49 receptions for 600 yards and a couple of scores behind D.K. Metcalf and Jaxson Smith-Njigba in the pass-catching pecking order.
So far, he’s topped the 1,000-yard plateau four times in his career, and he’s had at least 70 receptions in half of his seasons in the league.
Needless to say, expecting him to handle a big chunk of the workload at this point in his career might be wishful thinking.
Nevertheless, the Titans are doing the right thing by giving their first-year quarterback a proven veteran, much more so if he also happened to be a diehard Titans fan growing up.
