Los Angeles Lakers fans were excited a few weeks ago when it was announced that the team was signing Dennis Schroder to a one-year deal.
But then a few roadblocks: the biggest was that Schroder couldn’t get to training camp because of visa issues that prevented him from traveling from Germany to LA.
That all got resolved so things looked good for Schroder and he was ready to play, right?
Wrong.

The team revealed that Schroder will miss three to four weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a ligament in his thumb.
It wasn’t exactly clear just how big a role Schroder would have with the team as the season kicks off.
But one thing is clear: the Lakers are already experiencing injury issues that have got fans on edge.
Damaged Dennis
It feels like the Lakers are still tweaking their roster and figuring out what the starting five will look like.
Head coach Darvin Ham definitely has his work cut out for him with this squad.
Schroder was likely going to be a starter at times and then bench relief at others.
Meanwhile, the guy he would likely play for – Russell Westbrook – is also hurt.
He is pushing through a left hamstring injury and is listed as “day-to-day” before the first game against the Golden State Warriors, although he is expected to play in the opener.
Anthony Davis has been experiencing lower back stiffness but is expected to play on Tuesday night.
Backup center Thomas Bryant, however, won’t be playing because he is suffering from a thumb injury.
This is not the sort of news that the Lakers wanted but at least the biggest player for the team – LeBron James – looks and sounds healthy going into the first game of the season.
Hopefully, that will last.
