Today marks the final day of August, which means it is almost time for the stretch run of the 2023 season.
It’s been a wild and crazy season to say the least.
August in particular has been an entertaining month, especially for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The team got hot and essentially buried everybody else in the NL West.
In fact, the Dodgers made a little bit of history this month, winning 21 games by multiple runs.
On Twitter, Sarah Langs of MLB.com pointed out this interesting fact and where the Dodgers rank among other teams who have won 21 or more games by multiple runs in a month.
the Dodgers have 21 wins by MULTIPLE runs this month, tied for the 6th-most in a calendar month in MLB history, behind only:
1916 Sept Giants: 25
1938 Aug Yankees: 24
1929 July A’s: 23
1939 May Yankees: 22
1891 Sept Beaneaters: 22— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) August 31, 2023
The team with the most wins in a single month by multiple runs was, and still is, the 1916 New York Giants, who won 25 games by multiple runs in the month of September.
The Dodgers are tied for sixth on the list.
In August of 1938, the New York Yankees won 24 games in such fashion.
The list also includes three other teams, such as the 1929 Philadelphia Athletics, who won 23 such games in July, the 1939 Yankees, who won 22 such games in May, and the 1891 Boston Beaneaters, who are tied with the 1939 Yankees for 22 wins by multiple runs in the month of September.
Needless to say, the Dodgers are in some historic company with some elite teams.
They’ll enter the month of September on a hot streak.
In fact, the team has won four consecutive games and eight of their last 10 contests.
They also lead the NL West by 14.5 games over the San Francisco Giants.
