The Los Angeles Dodgers went from fighting with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the top spot in the NL West for most of the first half to holding a 14.5-game lead over the second-placed squad in the division.
That’s their current cushion in the West, and it all stems from a truly elite month of August.
Perhaps you won’t believe this, but LA is 24-4 in August this year.
It’s hard to put how good they have been this month into actual words.
Their August prowess is not limited to this year, though.
As it turns out, they have been outstanding in August for the last four seasons.
“Dodgers in August over the last 4 seasons: – 88-23 W-L – .793 win pct. That is the best win percentage in a single month over a 4-season span in MLB history (min. 80 games),” ESPN Stats & Info tweeted.

No team in the history of MLB has a better winning percentage in a single month over a four-season span than the 2020-23 Dodgers in August.
The team just loves the summer months, and the numbers don’t lie.
The D-Backs and the San Francisco Giants had us fooled for a while: we all thought they could compete over a long season with the Dodgers.
They aren’t bad teams: in fact, they could be part of the postseason via the Wild Card.
They just aren’t in the same class as the Dodgers, a team that is being carried by two legendary MVP candidates in Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts.
