In the least shocking turn of events we’ve seen all week, the Houston Texans just named C.J. Stroud their QB1.
Stroud was the No. 2 pick and expected to be thrown into the fire right away, but still, Demeco Ryans had to make it official.

As expected, Stroud went through some ups and downs during the preseason, but he drew great reviews from training camp and practice, and the team seems to be quite excited about his future.
The Texans should fare slightly better than during the brief Lovie Smith era, especially on the defensive side of the field, but it’ll take a while before they’re ready to compete.
Their offensive line will keep C.J. Stroud on his toes more often than he’d want to, and they’ll have a tough time keeping him safe from other team’s pass rushers.
Even so, Stroud has always found ways to extend plays, and regardless of some early criticism and questions about his football I.Q. and ability to read opposing defenses in real-time, he’s always posted big numbers.
It’s officially the dawn of a new era in Houston, and while Davis Mills didn’t do a terrible job by any means, it became clear that they needed to aim higher if they wanted to replace Deshaun Watson with another franchise quarterback.
Stroud could be one of the next big things in the league, and while there will be some growing pains along the way, Texans fans have more than enough reasons to be quite excited about the season.
