The Kansas City Chiefs entered Super Bowl LIX with a chance to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
In the weeks before the game, fans watched as the media pushed the narrative that Patrick Mahomes would be the GOAT if he pulled off the three-peat.
The Philadelphia Eagles had other ideas as they tore the Chiefs apart limb from limb, winning 40-22 while at one point being up 34-0 late in the third quarter before Mahomes popped off in garbage time to make the final score look much more palatable.
On Monday’s episode of First Take, Smith declared the NFL’s GOAT debate “officially over” and added that Mahomes was so bad on Sunday that Joe Montana now has to be added back into the GOAT conversation.

First Take presented a graphic comparing Mahomes’ Super Bowl statistics with Tom Brady’s.
Brady threw six interceptions in ten Super Bowl games, while Mahomes has now thrown seven in only half as many appearances.
Smith said the conversation could be revisited down the road if Mahomes can collect some more accolades, but for the time being, there is no reason to have this debate again.
Sports talk shows are going to have to find something else to shout about for a long time, and it’s a shame that Mahomes robbed them of so much content this summer.
With seven football-less months now staring us in the face, we’ll see what First Take and all these other shows cook up now that the GOAT debate is history.
