Stephen A. Smith is often known for his hot takes and fiery diatribes against NBA stars.
But on Monday morning, he had nothing but love for one of the league’s most controversial stars.
Recently, Kyrie Irving took to social media to say that Los Angeles Clippers star Russell Westbrook revolutionized the game of basketball and inspired many other players.
That is the type of strong statement that Smith usually pushes back against.
Instead, he said how much he loves both Westbrook and Irving.
He also brought up how much he respects Westbrook’s desire to give back to underserved communities with his charities.

Smith spoke about more than the way that Westbrook gives back.
He called him “the most athletic point guard in the history of basketball.”
He also stated that he never cheats fans with his drive and effort on the court.
However, he did point out that he has been named league MVP and is a “walking triple-double” but still hasn’t become a champion.
This is something that many detractors bring up.
Despite all the success he has found and the winning personality and attitude he has, Westbrook still hasn’t earned a championship ring.
Smith admits this much and says that Irving’s words about Westbrook beg an evaluation of the player’s career.
It’s clear that he feels very favorably about Westbrook.
He has had his ups and downs and has definitely given fans reasons to shake their heads.
But there really are few players who are as committed as Westbrook, for better and for worse.
People will often bring up his lack of championship rings but no one can knock Westbrook’s hustle.
