NFL legend Shannon Sharpe has earned himself a huge following on social media.
But that comes with great responsibility, especially now that he has more exposure because of his regular appearances on ESPN’s “First Take.”
The two-edged sword of being such a popular figure among sports fans was on full display after his appearance on Monday’s edition of the show.
Sharpe went viral for his makeup, with fans making fun of him and putting together countless hilarious memes and edits about it.
That’s why the Pro Football Hall of Famer took to Twitter to laugh it up and explain that it was the first time that person did his makeup, so he admitted it was a “little heavy.”
Appreciate the concern over my makeup this morning on @FirstTake. This was her 1st time doing my makeup and it was a little heavy. My appearance is important not as important as my takes. Hopefully, the takes were gr8 as usual. #LipSparringChamp #BestDressed #Espn

The multi-time Super Bowl champion added that he hoped the takes were better than the makeup.
Sharpe is rapidly becoming one of the most respected figures among former athletes turned into analysts.
Outside of his never-ending praise for LeBron James, he’s been mostly objective and non-biased, not to mention the fact that he provides plenty of insight as a knowledgeable figure and football savant.
Sharpe has also made the rounds for having a top-notch list of guests on his “Club Shay Shay” podcast, which was also removed from FOX after he agreed to a contract buyout with the network.
But as beloved as he is, no one can escape internet trolls, and those hilarious edits will be out there to haunt him until the end of time, so it’s nice to see that he took them in good spirits.
