The Los Angeles Rams have made changes to their special teams unit after weeks of inconsistent kicking that included missed attempts and blocked kicks. Those breakdowns played a role in both of their losses this season and prompted the organization to address the issue.
Sunday’s game offered a cleaner result as the Rams converted all six extra-point attempts in a high-scoring performance that produced six touchdowns. Harrison Mevis handled kicking duties in his first start while veteran long snapper Jake McQuaide returned to the lineup after being elevated from the practice squad.
The Rams announced two roster moves on Monday following the improved execution. The team released long snapper Alex Ward and elevated McQuaide to the active roster on a permanent basis.

McQuaide is back in the role he held with the franchise from 2011 through 2020. The two-time Pro Bowl selection originally joined the then-St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent from Ohio State.
He appeared in every game during that stretch and handled snapping duties through Super Bowl LIII following the 2018 season.
After leaving Los Angeles, McQuaide spent two years with the Dallas Cowboys before making stops with the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Miami Dolphins between 2023 and 2024. His return makes him one of just two players currently on the roster who also competed for the organization during its time in St. Louis.
Right tackle Rob Havenstein is the only other remaining connection to that era.
The Rams hope McQuaide’s experience and consistency can stabilize a special teams unit that has cost them critical points during the early part of the season.
