The Atlanta Falcons have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season. Once again, they’ve failed to make the most of one of the most proficient and talented groups of skill players in the league.
Now, they’ve lost their starting quarterback for the season. While Michael Penix Jr. hadn’t necessarily played well, this is a big blow to their already unlikely postseason aspirations.
With that in mind, head coach Raheem Morris wanted to express confidence in the quarterback’s comeback.
“The one thing we say about Michael is we know what it’s like to be battle tested. He’s shown us that before. He’s done nothing but come back stronger every single opportunity he’s been given. The guy is going to come back stronger for us. This organization believes in him,” Morris said.

However, the Falcons should explore all of their options right now. They knew Penix’s history of injuries, and that didn’t stop them from taking him with a top-10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, a head-scratching move most people saw as a reach, especially after signing Kirk Cousins that offseason.
Penix was older than the average rookie, and using such a valuable pick on him after giving Cousins a huge contract didn’t make much sense. Fast forward to today, and with Penix’s less-than-impressive play, age, and latest injury, it’s hard to get excited about him, his return, or his long-term outlook.
As for the Falcons overall, Morris’ decision-making has also left a lot to be desired. After squandering another year of Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts and Drake London, it wouldn’t be crazy to think about a change.
