The Los Angeles Dodgers were hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with Noah Syndergaard.
But, that has not happened this season.
The Dodgers have given Syndergaard 12 starts to see if he can become a reliable pitcher.
But, it is quite clear that his best days are behind him.
On the year, Syndergaard is 1-4 with a 7.16 ERA.
In his 55.1 innings pitched he has given up 71 hits.
Now to make matters worse, the 30-year-old has been placed on the injured list.
According to Jon Morosi, Syndergaard has been placed on the 15-day IL with a blister on his right index finger.

Many people wondered how much longer the Dodgers were going to let Syndergaard pitch.
He has struggled all season and you would think they would stop putting him out there.
Maybe this injury is the best thing for the righty.
Now he can take some time off and try to figure out what has gone wrong this season.
One issue for Syndergaard in recent years is he no longer has strikeout stuff.
Last season, he pitched 134.2 innings with only 95 strikeouts.
He has not had a K/9 of over 10 since the 2017 season.
But we have seen many pitchers change their style as they get older.
That is what Syndergaard needs to buy into.
He needs to become more of a finesse pitcher than a power pitcher like he once was.
It appears he may not get many more opportunities to show he can be a big-league starter.
So he needs to figure things out sooner than later.
