While teams such as the Kansas City Royals, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Detroit Tigers have signed multiple free agents – some of them of the high-profile variety – the Seattle Mariners have been relatively quiet this offseason.
Fans are starting to lose it, as they clearly see the roster can, and should, be improved if the team wants to return to the postseason.
Besides a couple of trades, there hasn’t been much movement yet in Seattle.
But the offseason is still young.
Yes, Shohei Ohtani, Sonny Gray, Eduardo Rodriguez, and other expensive targets have signed, but there is plenty of talent available.
Among pitchers, Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, Josh Hader, Shota Imanaga, Marcus Stroman, Brandon Woodruff (injured), and many others remain unsigned.
On the hitter side, the Mariners can still go after Cody Bellinger, J.D. Martinez, Joc Pederson, Mitch Garver, and many more.
They seem to be eyeing a top slugger: Jorge Soler.
“The Seattle Mariners are the most active team for Cuban OF/DH Jorge Soler, per source. Yankees and Marlins have also approached and have shown interest,” MLB reporter Francys Romero tweeted.

Soler hit 36 home runs last season while playing half his games in the pitching-friendly loanDepot Park, the home of the Miami Marlins.
He has multiple 30 and 40-homer campaigns in his career, and even though he is a bit inconsistent, he would inject some much-needed power to the Mariners team that lost Jarred Kelenic, Teoscar Hernandez, and Eugenio Suarez.
It’s safe to say that even though there aren’t indications that a deal is close, the Mariners are the favorites to sign Soler.
