Throughout the first two rounds of the NFL playoffs, former No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff has been as advertised as the undisputed leader of the Detroit Lions, leading the franchise to two wins and a spot in the NFC Championship Game to take on the San Francisco 49ers on the road at Levi’s Stadium.
Although Goff isn’t considered among the league’s elite quarterbacks, he’s likely second tier for most, as he’s able to do enough on the football field to keep the Lions competitive every single week, which has led to the team’s success this season.
Ahead of the playoff showdown with the Lions in the Bay Area, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan showed nothing but respect for Goff and his capabilities, knowing his team will have its hands full trying to contain him on Sunday, via 49ers on NBCS.
“He’s as accurate as any quarterback I’ve seen,” Shanahan said of Goff. “He can play at a very top level. If you sit and make things easy for him, he will gash you. I’ve seen it over and over whether he’s with the [Los Angeles] Rams or he’s with Detroit. That’s why he challenges you. You better be on your stuff, or he can embarrass you fast.”

Along with being more than capable of carving up a good NFL defense, Goff has the benefit of playing behind one of the best offensive lines in the game today, which will likely challenge Nick Bosa and company this weekend.
Although the 49ers are the heavy favorites (-7) right now, Shanahan clearly isn’t taking Goff lightly, as he knows he’ll have to contain the three-time Pro Bowler in order to come out on top in this game.
