The San Francisco 49ers came into the 2024 NFL season as the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl.
After making it to the big game last year and playing the Kansas Chiefs hard until the clock struck zero, many people believed they’d strike back with a vengeance.
However, the 49ers haven’t been as dominant this year as they have been in the past, and are effectively eliminated from the playoffs with three weeks to go.
With their record and struggles in mind, some fans and analysts have questioned Brock Purdy’s positioning on the team, wondering if he should still be their starting quarterback moving forward.
Purdy, of course, was the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and wasn’t supposed to amount to much.
He proved the doubters wrong in his first and second seasons, and while his third year hasn’t been ideal, some analysts, including Kurt Warner, aren’t holding that against him.
“It’s so funny how we have such recency bias on so many things in this league,” Warner said via a recent appearance on “Willard & Dibs.”

Warner believes that people are judging Purdy too harshly this year, that they aren’t taking his prior years into account when criticizing him.
He also touched on the fact that some people want the 49ers to flip Purdy for Sam Darnold, as the Minnesota Vikings aren’t likely to re-sign him.
That doesn’t seem to be in their best interest, at least in his mind, and wants them to keep fighting for the former Mr. Irrelevant.
