The Golden State Warriors wouldn’t have become a dynasty without Klay Thompson.
They couldn’t even make the playoffs in the two years he was out with an injury, and they won an NBA championship again when he came back.
However, with great power came greater responsibilities, and people were used to greatness from him.
That’s why the media and the fans made it seem as if he couldn’t play anymore after a bad year.
Thompson struggled to get into a rhythm early in the season, and his numbers took a dip, but looking back on them, he knows his stats were better than how they were portrayed.
Talking to Tristan Jass, the future Hall of Famer claimed that he still played great, as he averaged 18 points per game on 39% from beyond the arc (Via NBA Central).
Klay Thompson believes he still had ‘great’ production last season
“At the end of the day, I look back like, bro, I still play a phenomenal brand of ball. You 18 a game, 39% from three. I’m not gonna let someone tell me that’s not great.”

That’s right on point, and it’s not like he used to average 40 points per game in his career.
Thompson didn’t play up to his usual standards, and he’s clearly lost a step on defense.
He also let his contract situation get to his head, and that only made it all the more difficult for him.
But to point the finger at him or blame him for the team’s shortcomings would be as inaccurate as it is unfair.
He deserves a lot of credit for what he’s done in his career, and if the’s anything close to the player he used to be in his prime, the Dallas Mavericks will be a problem.
