The New York Jets have watched just about everything go wrong this season, floundering to a 0-7 record and remaining the only winless team in the NFL.
They face a pair of winnable matchups against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns.
A big reason for the 0-7 record has been the offense’s inconsistency, which all starts and ends with quarterback Justin Fields, who is at risk of losing his starting job this week and recently was thrown under the bus by owner Woody Johnson.
Johnson said earlier this week that “It’s hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that he’s got,” as well as a number of other disparaging comments about his QB, to which Fields responded that he hadn’t seen the comments.
“I’m not on social media. It doesn’t bother me. Of course, everybody knows I need to play better, we need to play better as a team. No matter how the offense does as a unit, I’m going to get the blame and I understand that. That’s just what comes with the job. It’s what comes with it so you can’t let anything kind of affect your mind, my mind. That is what it is, no matter if it’s him, no matter if it’s family members, even teammates sometimes. There’s going to be times where you have to be the only one who believes in yourself. That’s his opinion. Like I told you guys after the game on Sunday, I’m at peace and all my focus is working each and every day and getting better.”
Justin Fields was asked for his reaction to Woody Johnson's comments yesterday:
"I didn't see any comment. Y'all know I'm not on social media at all."
Fields was again asked if he was aware of anything Johnson said:

It’s a little hard to believe, but we have to take Fields at his word and assume he isn’t focused on this and didn’t hear the comments.
The only important thing is the production on the field, which hasn’t been there over the last few weeks.
Fields has cratered, throwing for fewer than 50 yards in consecutive games and for the third time this season.
Throwing for fewer than 50 yards and showing consistent inaccuracy and indecisiveness has opened the door for veteran Tyrod Taylor to take over, though he is now dealing with a knee injury that clouds his status for Week 8.
It’s no surprise that things in New York have gotten messy, but hopefully, the powers that be can turn this around and prevent this season from being a total loss.
