Nobody likely predicted the Indianapolis Colts would get off to such a strong start, especially with a preseason quarterback competition between veteran castoff Daniel Jones and injury-prone potential bust Anthony Richardson.
Jones has been a revelation in his redemption season, but the star of the show has been running back Jonathan Taylor, who is on pace for more than 1,800 rushing yards and 30 total touchdowns.
Taylor has been so good, in fact, that Pro Football Focus believes he is the favorite to win Offensive Player of the Year and is pushing his way into the MVP conversation as the sixth-most-likely choice.

If the Colts continue to win at this rate and Taylor stays healthy, it’s hard to see how he wouldn’t win OPOY, especially if he keeps scoring so often.
That award is essentially reserved for running backs or wide receivers these days, and with such a firm lead over the rest of the running back field at the moment from a statistical standpoint, the main threats to Taylor winning this award would appear to be wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase or Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Awards are nice, but wins are more important, and Taylor would trade any personal accolades for a deep playoff run that includes a Super Bowl ring.
Mentioning the Colts as a championship contender before this season may have been seen as crazy, but they have been worthy with Taylor leading the charge.
