The New England Patriots hadn’t gotten much out of rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson. He had been one of the most disappointing players in the league during the early stages of the regular season.
However, since replacing injured starter Rhamondre Stevenson, Henderson has posted some impressive performances, including five touchdowns in the past two games.
Insider Jeremy Fowler recently revealed a potential return timeline for Stevenson, would could change the roles in the Patriots’ backfield again.
“Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson is targeting a return this week, per Jeremy Fowler. Stevenson has been recovering from a toe injury he suffered Week 8. Fowler adds that he expects New England to ‘find a sweet spot’ in regard to Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson’s usage,” Carlos A. Lopez wrote on X.

There’s no real reason to play Stevenson ahead of Henderson, as was the case before the injury. While the veteran showed the potential to be a workhorse running back at times, he’s always had major fumbling issues, and the Patriots can’t afford his turnovers as they pursue a playoff berth.
Henderson, on the other hand, has looked much more comfortable with an expanded role. Getting him out of this rhythm might be a disservice to a team that continues to handle its opposition.
The Patriots are playing at a superlative level. Even if they don’t make it to the Super Bowl, they’ve proven to be far ahead of schedule, and it might not be much longer before they’re back in the final game of the season.
Considering that, it only makes sense that their offense continues to ride the hot hand. Henderson should only get better with more touches, and even when Stevenson is back to full strength, they need to feed their emerging rookie early and often.
