The New York Jets are pretty much giving up on the season. Parting ways with two anchors of their defense, like DT Quinnen Williams and CB Sauce Gardner, meant waving the white flag.
That’s why it wouldn’t be fair to judge Aaron Glenn by the team’s record. At least, not just by that. With that in mind, he’s not likely to be in any sort of jeopardy of losing his job.
According to a report by NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the front office is well aware of the challenges that Glenn has had to deal with, and they know things are going to get worse before they get better. As such, they will have his back and bring him back for at least another season:
“Glenn won’t be judged during the 2025 season by what the team’s record is, sources say, keeping in mind that he lost two of his best players and must lead a locker room that watched Gardner and Williams leave. With quarterback issues and a young team in transition that got even younger this week, there are many factors at play. There appears to be an understanding of where this team is, talent-wise, and how much it needs,” Rapoport wrote.
Of course, that makes perfect sense and would be the right thing to do. Then again, that’s also why it’s kind of surprising, coming from arguably the most dysfunctional franchise in all of football.
That being said, Glenn’s work hasn’t necessarily shown this season. He was supposed to be the defensive-minded coach who’d take this team back to its defensive dominant ways from the Robert Saleh era. But so far, that has hardly been the case.
Granted, it’s hard to judge him when he has Justin Fields at quarterback, but this team used to be a defensive force despite its offensive shortcomings. Now, after moving on from two of their best players, they’re not going to be very good on either side of the field.
