The Los Angeles Lakers have had one of their most successful NBA offseasons in recent memory, with general manager Rob Pelinka seemingly making all the right moves to keep the team relatively intact while also adding key pieces to the puzzle.
Along with retaining Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura, Pelinka and company were recently able to sign superstar forward Anthony Davis to a three-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through 2028.
Although it remains to be seen if the Lakers have truly made all the right moves this summer, as anything can happen throughout the course of an 82-game season, the consensus is that Los Angeles has done incredibly well while potentially setting up the future of the franchise.
According to Sean Deveney of Heavy, the Lakers securing Davis’ long-term future with the team paves the way for LeBron James to retire in purple and gold via Legion Hoops.

James can become a free agent next summer, and a lot can change from now until July of next year, but he may not have a better chance to win another title elsewhere with a superstar of Davis’ caliber playing alongside him.
Along with Davis being in the fold for the foreseeable future, James’ family seems pretty entrenched in the city of Los Angeles, with Bronny James going to USC and no rumors of any plans for the family to relocate anytime soon.
It’ll be interesting to see how the twilight of James’ career pans out, but outside of a trade, he may not be going anywhere, and it’s hard to blame him as it seems like an ideal situation in Los Angeles.
