JuJu Brents was released by the Indianapolis Colts during roster cuts before the 2025 season began. The Miami Dolphins claimed him off waivers in August after injuries created depth concerns in their secondary.
The move provided the 25-year-old cornerback with an opportunity to secure a rotational role with his new team. That opportunity will now end earlier than anticipated. Brents is scheduled to undergo foot surgery that will sideline him for the remainder of the season, according to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

The third-year cornerback appeared in seven games and made two starts for Miami before the injury occurred. He recorded 14 total tackles during that stretch while adjusting to a new defensive system.
Brents has one year remaining on his rookie contract, giving the Dolphins the option to retain him through the offseason. That decision will be made by interim general manager Champ Kelly or whoever is hired for the permanent role, rather than former GM Chris Grier.
Miami is expected to undergo significant changes in its cornerback group during the offseason. Brents will carry a $1.9 million cap charge next season, a manageable figure that positions him to compete for a roster spot during training camp if the organization chooses to keep him.
