The 2022 NFL season might be wide receiver D.K. Metcalf‘s last with the Seattle Seahawks.
He will get much interest from other teams once the Seahawks make him available.
But the front office has constantly stated that the former Ole Miss standout won’t be on the trading block and that they are working on a contract extension.
The Seahawks might think otherwise after seeing Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams‘s deals this offseason.
If Metcalf ends up with comparable stats with those two All-Pro wideouts, are the Seahawks willing to give him a contract close to what they are set to earn?
Likewise, they recently reiterated that quarterback Russell Wilson wouldn’t be traded.
Instead, Seattle sent him to the Denver Broncos for Shelby Harris, Drew Lock, Noah Fant, and five draft picks.
Therefore, the Metcalf trade rumors won’t die soon.
However, the wide receiver is still unaware of any moves.
Haven’t heard anything, per @dkm14 https://t.co/S5CBHrDCjP

Sometimes, it’s the player involved who hears the news last.
They might not know the trade until it has been finalized.
But even if Metcalf hasn’t heard anything, it doesn’t mean that the Seahawks aren’t discussing the idea with other teams.
It doesn’t make sense to retain a talented wide receiver if they don’t address their quarterback situation.
Yes, The Seahawks Are In Rebuild Mode
The team might not admit it but letting go of Wilson and Bobby Wagner equates to a reset.
It isn’t easy to see them compete in the NFC West with a depleted roster.
Drew Lock won’t scare division rivals Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, and the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams.
They can trade for Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo to prove that they are not rebuilding.
At least those players can help elevate Metcalf’s stock if they eventually decide to trade him.
