The New York Jets sent shockwaves across the NFL by trading two-time All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts in a franchise-altering deal.
Gardner moves from a struggling Jets organization to a Colts team positioned near the top of the conference standings.
Indianapolis acquired the elite cornerback in exchange for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and first-round picks in 2026 and 2027.

Analyst Colin Cowherd offered his perspective on the trade during a segment on The Herd.
“The Colts are a very good team. This weekend, they get hammered, and their takeaway is, we got our roster. We got our quarterback, we got our O-line. We don’t have a corner. I will also tell you, there is a feeling among NFL executives. There is a corner shortage in the league. Everybody has a second or third good receiver. Nobody has a second good corner. Many teams don’t have a good first corner,” Cowherd said.

Cowherd credited the Jets for recognizing their current position and making a calculated decision.
By moving Gardner, New York secured valuable draft capital that positions them to address their most glaring need.
The franchise has assembled talent across the roster but remains without a franchise quarterback.
Those two first-round selections could provide the pathway to finally securing that piece.
The timing of the trade raised questions after the Jets committed significant resources to Gardner earlier in the year.
The cornerback signed a four-year extension worth $120.4 million in July under new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey.
That contract signaled Gardner’s importance as a foundational player for the organization moving forward.
Gardner entered the league as the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati.
He earned All-Pro recognition in both of his first two professional seasons, establishing himself among the league’s premier defensive backs.
