Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird is widely considered one of the greatest shooters — and players — in NBA history, and rightfully so.
Bird’s game would translate perfectly to this era.
He was strong, physical, and much more athletic than people credit him for.
He was also a solid defender, a great passer, and perhaps the best three-point shooter of his era.
However, former NBA player J.J. Redick believes Bird cannot be considered the greatest three-point shooter of all time because he attempted just two triples a night.
Subjectivity aside, Redick — who was an elite shooter himself — has a valid point right there.
Nonetheless, Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo didn’t agree with the former sharpshooter, firing back at J.J. with a rather bland argument.
Per Mad Dog, Redick can’t talk about Bird because he watched his games on YouTube, unlike Russo, who was actually in attendance.
Redick refuted him with multiple arguments and examples, yet the controversial — and usually wrong — pundit didn’t come to his senses:
“You and I are gonna sit down, we’re gonna sit there, and we’re gonna watch Finals games from the ‘80s,” Redick said.
“Here’s the difference,” Russo stated. “I saw the games, and I was at the games; you were not! You’re watching them on YouTube! I saw the games; I watched the games at the time. I watched all these games; you weren’t alive when these games were being played…you gotta watch these games at the time; watching them on YouTube 40 years later is not the same.”
Mad Dog & JJ Reddick. This is gonna be a classic 😭

It’s usually the former athletes who take shots at the media for not playing the sport, not the other way around.
In fact, Redick can brag about watching some of the greatest three-point shooters of the most three-point happy era in basketball history right there.
He wasn’t sitting on the bench or in a TV booth; he was actually there with Stephen Curry, Ray Allen, Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, and Kevin Durant.
This argument doesn’t make any sense, but that’s just the way Mad Dog has made a living with his ‘debates’ and takes.
