The New England Patriots are one of the hottest teams in football right now. Even so, former Patriots quarterback Cam Newton isn’t so sure about their record.
Newton claimed that their wins may have been “fool’s gold,” given their easy schedule. With that in mind, current QB Drake Maye clapped back by claiming that he didn’t even know what show Newton was on.
It didn’t take long before those comments went viral, and true to form, Newton doubled down on his Patriots remarks.
“I did say the Patriots are fool’s gold, and I’m going to stand on that. Because there’s no soul that will say they will take Drake Maye over a wild-card winner in Patrick Mahomes, in Lamar Jackson. Drake Maye, respectfully, you’re having a great season, but I also put Drake Maye in the position where it’s like, yo, we don’t really know,” Newton said.

Of course, Newton hadn’t taken a shot at Maye or claimed that he hadn’t played well. He just happens to think that the Patriots’ record should be taken with a grain of salt, and, in all fairness, he has a valid point.
So far, the Patriots have defeated the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons, who are all among the NFL’s worst teams. However, they also have wins against the Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers.
A team can only play whoever is on the schedule, so Newton’s comments might not be fair. All in all, New England doesn’t look like a fluke.
The Patriots are showing up prepared to play, and they’re executing in all three facets of the game. That’s usually a winning formula, regardless of the team on the other side of the field.
