The Detroit Pistons have currently won seven games in a row and are the best team in the Eastern Conference. Fans were hoping for a good season from the Pistons, but they are off to a start that’s even better than expected.
Cade Cunningham has been terrific for the Pistons so far this year, averaging 27.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 9.9 assists on 43.6 percent from the field. On Monday night, he was dominant with 46 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists as his Pistons beat the Washington Wizards in overtime.
According to StatMuse, there are only two players who have posted 40+ points, 10+ rebounds, 10+ assists, and 5+ steals in a single game. Those players are Michael Jordan and now Cunningham.

Cunningham has been working his way to this point since coming into the league in 2021-22. Last season, he averaged 26.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 9.1 assists, and he could end up with totals even better than that this year.
He seemed unstoppable on Monday night, even as Washington’s CJ McCollum was having a sensational night of his own. He posted 42 points, but it just wasn’t enough to get past the Pistons.
Detroit was the worst team in the league only a few seasons ago, but they have turned things around in a huge way. And Cunningham has been a driving force behind that exciting sea change.
Everyone knew the Eastern Conference was going to be fluid and wide open this year, and the Pistons are making the most of that. Now, they just have to keep it up for all 82 games.
They are young and unproven in many ways, but this could be the year that they break through and reach their next level. If Cunningham keeps playing like this, that is much more likely.
