Zion Williamson was the most hyped NBA prospect since LeBron James.
The New Orleans Pelicans ignored all the red flags about his weight and durability — as they should — and didn’t hesitate to take him with the No. 1 overall pick.
He’s been a special player whenever he’s been on the court, making the Pelicans seem like an actual contending team.
The issue is that he hasn’t been on the court often, struggling to stay healthy and taking way more than the average player to come back from injuries.

With that in mind, Brian Windhorst of ESPN reports that for the first time since he made it to the league, the Pelicans are actually having internal discussions about potentially moving on from him.
The Pelicans currently have the No. 14 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, but they’re quite high on G League Ignite PG Scoot Henderson, who’s a projected top-3 pick.
Windhorst adds that there haven’t been any offers made around Zion yet, but there’s a possibility that changes between now and the NBA Draft, as there’s just no way the Pelicans will be able to leapfrog to No. 2 or No. 3 unless Zion is a part of the deal.
Williamson is locked in for the future with a very lucrative deal, and losing him would be a major blow for the organization’s aspirations.
Then again, he might never be healthy enough to play a full season, and while his upside is sky-high, they might have finally come to terms with the fact that they might be better off without him.
