The Boston Celtics made a somewhat controversial transaction just a couple of nights ago.
Getting Kristaps Porzingis sounds great on paper, but losing a fan favorite like Marcus Smart is a blow that stung many of their supporters.
That’s why Celtics GM Brad Stevens had no choice but to address the media and explain himself, lauding what the Latvian big man can bring to the table now.

Stevens cited that Porzingis’ fit with their current roster is pretty much seamless, as he can play with any of the other players from their core, thus giving the coaching staff plenty of versatility and combinations to play with.
Truth be told, this is a move that could get them over the top and finally help them win another championship.
They now have a big who can put the ball on the floor, score efficiently from all three levels, play at the four and the five, and even swat some shots.
Then again, Porzingis also comes with some red flags that neither the fans nor the coaching staff should overlook just because of his skills.
He’s been injury-prone for the better part of his career, not to mention the fact that he’s had some well-documented character issues along the way as well.
While the talent and upside are undeniable, losing their locker room leader in Smart could end up being a bit of a catastrophe for this team, especially considering they’ve lacked direction and competitive spirit every time things get tough in the playoffs.
