Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves will be a major part of this year’s Rising Stars contest during All-Star Weekend.
This goes to show just how popular and promising the talented player is.
However, fans hoping to see Edwards participate in one of the most popular parts of All-Star Weekend, the dunk contest, will be disappointed to hear that he has no plans to do that.
Will Anthony Edwards ever do the Dunk Contest?
“Nah. I'm an in-game dunker… I just like to dunk on people.”

Speaking with NBA TV, Edwards said that he doesn’t have an interest in doing the dunk contest, stating that “I’m an in-game dunker. I just like to dunk on people.”
That’s a huge shame because Edwards signing up to be in the dunk contest would promise fans something very special.
Edwards On The Rise
To say that Edwards is a rising star in the NBA is a huge understatement.
The Timberwolves star is creating 21.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game this season and is a major part of why the team is on its way to the postseason.
He is a 6-foot-5 guard and is physically intimidating and powerful.
There are quite a few players in the league who he could dunk on if he wanted to.
But as Edwards later noted during his interview, the dunk contest is “for tricks, people who can up there and spin. I can’t do all that. I wanna dunk on somebody.”
That’s a very valid point and Edwards isn’t wrong: the dunk contest is certainly for flashier, stunt-filled plays and not more traditional dunks.
Still, it would be great to see Edwards suit up and give it a try.
He isn’t an official All-Star this year, although he is participating in the Rising Stars contest.
However, if he keeps playing the way he has been there is no doubt he’ll be an actual participant in the All-Star Game soon.
