The Green Bay Packers received devastating news as wide receiver Christian Watson’s season came to an abrupt end when he tore his ACL in their Week 18 loss to the Chicago Bears.
The injury, which occurred midway through the second quarter, not only will keep him out of the playoffs but also casts a shadow over his availability for the 2025 season.
As the Packers gear up for their NFC Wild Card game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Watson’s absence looms large.
ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky recently emphasized Watson’s critical role in Green Bay’s offensive scheme.
“I really believe that that’s the most impactful perimeter player that they have, just because he’s the vertical threat guy. He’s not only the guy that actually makes plays down the field, but he’s the person at least fears or puts the fear in defenses to go make some plays down the field,” Orlovsky said, via ESPN Madison.

Orlovsky also said that though the Packers possess other talented offensive players, none match Watson’s vertical speed, which will be a crucial element needed to challenge a strong defense like Philadelphia’s.
Without Watson stretching the field, the Packers’ ability to generate explosive plays could be severely limited.
Before his injury, he had 29 catches for 620 yards, an impressive 21.4 yards per catch average.
His career numbers tell an even more compelling story as his 98 receptions, 1,653 yards and 14 touchdowns in 38 games showcase his big-play ability.
The timing couldn’t be worse for the Packers, as they’ll now need to navigate the playoffs without one of their most dynamic offensive weapons.
