The Indianapolis Colts have the best offensive player in the league right now, and, judging by the numbers, it’s not particularly close. Jonathan Taylor has been a human wrecking ball, and no player in the league has been more valuable to his team than him.
That’s why NFL analyst John Middlekauff believes he’s about to make history. Talking on his “3 & OUT” show, Middlekauff predicted that Taylor could finally end the years-long streak of quarterbacks winning MVP:
“I would say one guy who has been zoned in this entire season is Jonathan Taylor. I’ve just been blown away by watching this guy play. I understand that everyone votes for quarterbacks. The MVP feels like it’s become a quarterback award. But if the Colts win 13 or 14 games and are the No. 1 seed in the AFC, this guy has to be very seriously in the conversation. When all else isn’t working, call 28’s number,” Middlekauff said.

Truth be told, this shouldn’t even be a debate or a surprise at this point in the season. We’re talking about someone who’s leading the league in both yards and touchdowns from scrimmage by a wide margin, all while anchoring an elite offense for a Super Bowl contender.
There’s no point in calling the award ‘MVP’ if it’s only going to be reserved for quarterbacks. What about defensive players or players in other positions?
Having Jonathan Taylor settle with Offensive Player of the Year honors wouldn’t only be insufficient, it would be disrespectful. That, of course, assuming he keeps this pace up.
The Colts have been one of the most pleasant surprises in the league this season. And while Daniel Jones clearly deserves all the credit in the world as well, Taylor has clearly been the most important player on the team. Will that be enough for him to finally end this streak? Probably not, but it’s nice to see that people are at least having his conversation.
