The Los Angeles Lakers are in the midst of a championship window.
They are going to do whatever is necessary to make sure they can stay competitive for years to come.
Which is why they felt it important to sign Anthony Davis to a contract extension.
The Lakers and Davis agreed to a three-year, $186 million extension.
That is the richest annual contract extension in NBA history.
Chiney Ogwumike appeared on “First Take” and said this decision to sign Davis to a long-term deal was the right one.
She mentioned how when Davis is on the floor the Lakers are the best defensive team in the NBA.
Also, how they have a “65-70% win percentage” when Davis scores 25 or more points.

Davis has established himself as one of the top players in the NBA when healthy.
But, staying on the floor has been a major problem for Davis in his career.
He has not played more than 62 games in a season since 2017-18 when he was with the New Orleans Pelicans.
As he gets older, it is doubtful that he will get more durable.
In fact, the opposite is expected to happen.
The Lakers may benefit from giving Davis more rest days during the season to keep him fresh.
Handing over this monster deal to Davis shows the Lakers want him to be the face of their franchise.
LeBron James is playing out of the final few years of his career and Davis will be the one left standing.
The Lakers better hope Davis can become an alpha as he gets older.
