The St. Louis Cardinals are currently experiencing a rare break.
Not often do teams have two consecutive off-days.
But after their series against the Kansas City Royals, they were given two days off before traveling to face the Pittsburgh Pirates.
St. Louis ended their series with the Royals on a positive note, with Miles Mikolas giving them eight scoreless innings to help stop a two-game losing skid.
Mikolas has become the team’s undisputed ace this season.
He owns a 4-1 record and has an ERA of 3.75.
His latest dominant performance earned him some high praise from his teammate in Cardinals legend Adam Wainwright.
After another impressive start–and another #stlcards win–for Miles Mikolas, @Cardinals P @UncleCharlie50 had a lot to say about the team's key stopper.#WednesdaysWIthWaino #TheOpeningDrive

Wainwright revealed that after his own start on Monday, he approached manager Oli Marmol and made a prediction for Mikolas’ outing.
The two-time World Series champion predicted a nine-inning, two-hit shutout as well as no walks and eight strikeouts.
Mikolas did not go the distance, but he gave St. Louis eight innings and ultimately struck out 10 Royals batters.
Wainwright expressed his gratitude for having Mikolas as his teammate and proceeded to say some very kind words about his friend.
The 41-year-old referred to Mikolas as a stud, pitching in the prime of his career.
He also praised his fellow right-hander for being incredibly strong, even going as far as to say that he could pass as a tight end in the NFL.
The three-time All-Star complimented Mikolas for being able to locate his four pitches and come through in the clutch, referring to him as the definition of an ace.
