The Philadelphia Phillies need anyone to step up to help them get out of this funk.
Sometimes it takes an unknown player to help turn the season around.
That might be the case with the newest Phillie, Drew Ellis.
Ellis has played four games with the Phillies this season and has already made a substantial impact.
On Sunday, he had his best day as a major leaguer.
Ellis went 3-3 with two home runs and two walks.
He and Kyle Schwarber each hit two home runs in the Phillies’ dominant 11-3 win.
Entering today, Drew Ellis hadn’t gone deep in a major league game since August 14, 2021

Ellis came out of nowhere with this performance.
He struggled in his first few games with the team and most Phillies fans were unfamiliar with his game.
The 27-year-old has only played in 39 major league games in his career.
Ellis is not expected to be an everyday player for the Phillies, but he could play his way into that role.
He is a primary third baseman but also has experience at second and first base.
With Alec Bohm sidelined for an extended period it seems like we will see Ellis in the lineup more often.
The Phillies are 27-32 this season and find themselves in fourth place in the NL East.
They need to find a way to string together wins and they do not care who is in the lineup to do it.
It will be interesting to see how Ellis can perform if he continues to get opportunities.
The Phillies need all the help they can get to try and get back into the playoff picture.
