The Chicago White Sox are determined to make the postseason.
Unlike last year, when they made the playoffs with a 13-game cushion over the second-place team in the division, they are currently third in the AL Central.
Yes, that’s right: the consensus preseason favorites to run away with the division crown are now struggling to leapfrog the Cleveland Guardians and the Minnesota Twins in the standings.
The Pale Hose are 61-57, one game behind the Twins and two behind the Guardians, the division leaders at this point of the season.
While it’s true that injuries have gotten in the way again for the White Sox, most teams have to deal with them over the course of the long season.
It’s also evident that some of their brightest stars haven’t performed as hoped.
The formerly scary White Sox offense is currently 14th in wRC+, with a 101 mark: virtually league average.
They are also 17th in runs scored, with 500, and 26th in home runs with just 101.
They are 13th in ERA, with 3.87: if it wasn’t for Dylan Cease, who knows where they would be.
The White Sox Need All The Help They Can Get
Overall, the numbers don’t lie: they say the White Sox have been mediocre.
However, the organization appears to be eager to find improvements across the board.
They recently signed shortstop Elvis Andrus to a league-minimum contract.
It’s a worthy, cheap gamble for an experienced shortstop to take over Tim Anderson, as he recovers from injury.
Fortunately, it may not be the only move Chicago makes with an eye on improving their chances.
“A little birdie told me that the Chicago White Sox are not done trying to improve/perfect their roster. We’ll see if they actually do it,” FanSided’s Vinnie Parise tweeted.

Let’s see if the reinforcements come from the free agent market, or from their own minor leagues.
The White Sox have the division within reach, and don’t want to let it slip away.
