New York Yankees reliever Clay Holmes was one of the best pitchers in MLB during the first half, with a 1.31 ERA.
Even with some struggles and injuries after the break, he finished 2022 with a rock-solid 2.54 ERA in 63.2 frames.
We often use numbers to evaluate players, or on-field performance if we get the chance to go to the stadium or watch games on TV.
However, they are more than just players: when the game is over, they go to their homes and live their lives just like any one of us.
They have interests, likes and dislikes, and most of them also have hobbies beyond baseball.
This is the case with Holmes.
Take a closer look, thanks to MLB Players Media.
“Before tonight’s Game 5, get to know @Yankees All-Star Clay Holmes through a different lens,” they tweeted with a video of some of Holmes’ passions: nature, unique landscapes and places, and photography.

A Very Cool Hobby
Much like Randy Johnson and his love for photography, Holmes loves to capture unique moments with his camera.
Despite studying engineering in college, Holmes didn’t know he had an artistic side until recently.
Since he also loves to put on his backpack and explore the world, he learned to love photography and the results are amazing.
Incredible shots of mountains, lakes, skies, majestic animals and unknown lands are now part of Holmes’ resume in addition to his ground-ball inducing sinker and nasty slider.
Holmes often escapes to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with a friend, and lets his camera do the talking.
It’s always nice to remember there is life beyond the diamond for all players, and that some of their hobbies are extremely helpful or cool things.
