The Orioles Tied The Yankees In Shocking Category

When looking at the AL East landscape many people are used to seeing the New York Yankees at the top of the division.

The Yankees have consistently been one of the best teams in baseball.

Also, they have a long history of success, which is the opposite of the Baltimore Orioles.

For many years the Orioles have been very bad.

Before this season the Orioles last made the playoffs in 2016.

Even with that, they have been as good in the AL East as the Yankees.

According to The Athletic MLB, the Orioles and Yankees have both won two division titles in the last nine seasons.

Surprising, but true: The Orioles have the same amount of AL East division titles as the Yankees in the last nine seasons.

Looking at the payrolls of both teams, this is shocking.

The Yankees consistently have one of the highest payrolls in baseball.

While the Orioles have one of the lowest.

Just based on that there is no reason the Orioles and Yankees should be in the same class.

Yet, the Orioles have done a great job of drafting and developing their players.

That is why they do not need a large payroll to have success.

Plus, the Yankees have whiffed on some expensive players.

Most recently, Giancarlo Stanton and Carlos Rodon have not lived up to their contracts.

It should not surprise anyone if the Orioles are the best team in the AL East for years to come.

They have a strong roster of youth and experience.

Also, they have one of the best farm systems in baseball.

This team is not going anywhere any time soon.
