Last season’s Super Bowl was a very competitive contest, and it featured two outstanding quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts.
Hurts’ Philadelphia Eagles took a 10-point lead at halftime, but Mahomes and crew fought back to make it a down-to-the-wire contest.
There was a controversial holding penalty in crunch time on Philadelphia cornerback James Bradberry, but there was another occurrence that some felt was a mistake — multiple players slipping on the field at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.
The natural inclination is to blame the NFL, or possibly some stadium employees, but the league actually blamed players on both teams for wearing the wrong cleats, per Dov Kleiman.
Report: The NFL privately blamed the #Eagles and #Chiefs players for all the slipping in the Super Bowl, per Mike Florio.
A source told Florio that the league communicated to the owners that the reason all the slipping happened is because the players were wearing the wrong… pic.twitter.com/gEJs6tBeg0

Members of the Eagles switched to different cleats during the contest, but to no avail.
Defensive end Brandon Graham said the Chiefs were “blessed” by the field conditions, as Mahomes did not get sacked a single time during the game.
The victory gave the Chiefs their second world championship in the last four seasons, and while that doesn’t quite make them a dynasty, it could end up being the foundation for one.
Mahomes will turn 28 early this coming season, which means he could have as many as 10 more elite or near-elite years left in him, and while star tight end Travis Kelce is 33, he looks to have plenty left in his tank.
Kansas City will face a challenge this fall and winter offensively, as JuJu Smith-Schuster, who was their most productive wideout in 2022, is now a member of the New England Patriots.
But if there’s one thing the league has learned, it’s to not bet against Mahomes.
