The NBA is arguably one of the most progressive professional sports leagues today, as NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and company are always looking for ways to improve the game and expand its horizons.
One thing that the NBA has taken from international soccer is an in-season tournament, with all 30 teams in the league set to battle during the course of a season for a separate trophy from the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
According to the league’s Twitter page, the NBA will make some big announcements this weekend with the Summer League in full swing in Las Vegas as to what the NBA In-Season Tournament will entail.

Although many NBA fans have been on the fence about an in-season tournament, the format has been incredibly popular overseas and could ultimately be just as popular in the United States in the years to come if done correctly, with players around the league being adequately motivated to play competitively.
Along with the money set to be earned by teams and players as a result of this in-season tournament, the legacy aspect will also come into play, with players being able to add to their resume with another trophy.
It’ll be interesting to see how everything is put together by the league and what details will be announced this weekend, as all eyes will be on rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs and Scoot Henderson of the Portland Trail Blazers as they try to lead their teams to Summer League glory in Sin City.
