The Los Angeles Lakers found a true gem in Austin Reaves.
He may not be a superstar, but he showed that he’s more than willing to make the most of his touches, lead the offense when things get tough, and even embrace a defensive role that not many people thought he was capable of handling.
Reaves played his way up Darvin Ham’s rotation and even got plays drawn for himself in crunch time during the playoffs, so he’s obviously a guy they trust and would love to build around.
That’s why it wasn’t a surprise to see that Marc Stein reported (via Hoop Central) that they’re ready to match every single offer he gets in the offseason, even if a team is willing to go all the way and offer him the maximum of 4 years and $100 million.
“The Lakers, league sources say, are a lock to match any offer on Reaves — even if someone signs Reaves to the maximum allowable offer sheet worth nearly $100 million over four years.”

The Lakers were reportedly only going to match offers for him in the $50 million range, but he became such an integral part of their roster that they know they cannot afford to let him go right now.
Reaves took a lot of pressure off LeBron James’ shoulders down the stretch last season, taking the ball up the court, serving as their playmaker and ball-handler, and even calling his own plays or taking things in his own hands in isolation.
The Lakers need someone who can deliver on a nightly basis, especially considering that Anthony Davis has failed to put in consistent efforts offensively.
Reaves might never be an All-Star, but he’s most definitely worth that much money.
